Frequently asked questions
What are the requirements to join?
To join Alpha Omega Epsilon, you must have a minimum GPA of 2.0. You do not have to be a STEM major, but many of our events are geared towards STEM. Additionally, we have a dual membership policy, meaning you cannot be part of a panhellenic or professional greek organization. If you are unsure if an organization you are in is a part of our policy, feel free to ask!
What is candidacy?
Candidacy refers to the process that must be completed by potential new members (PNMs) in order to officially join Alpha Omega Epsilon. Throughout this process, you will learn about our core values, history, traditions, symbols, and expectations of being an active member. You will also get to know the active sisters through one-on-one conversations and all the events we hold during the semester. This is typically a 6-week period beginning in mid September and ending in early November. Once you complete the candidacy period, you will become an official member of A.O.E!
What is the time commitment for A candidate?
As a candidate of Alpha Omega Epsilon, you will have to attend weekly chapter and candidate meetings on Sundays at 7pm. Chapter and candidate meetings combined typically last for 1.5-2 hours. You will also need to complete 5 service hours, but we hold several philanthropy events throughout the semester to help with this requirement. Most of your time will be spent on carnation conversations with active members. It is truly a very doable and enjoyable process! At the end of candidacy, we will have a sisterhood retreat to celebrate the candidates and their initiation into A.O.E!
What is the time commitment for an active sister?
In addition to weekly chapter, active sisters are expected to attend at least 2 philanthropy, social, and professional events, which can typically add up to about 6-10 hours per semester. Also, as an active member, you are required to complete 10 service hours per semester. Outside of these requirements, we host multiple events per week that active sisters can attend if they would like. The time commitment largely depends on how many events and how active you want to be within the sorority. If you choose to assume a leadership position, your time commitment may be greater than that of a sister without a position. Our Exec board and chairs will commit more hours per week since they are in charge of planning events, completing sorority-related tasks, and making sure our sorority functions smoothly.
We understand our sisters are involved in STEM disciplines and therefore are very understanding when it comes to their course load and busy schedule.

How much are dues?
Dues for active members are typically around $210 per semester. For candidates, they are $225 for one semester only. We have payment plans, a dues fund, and are actively fundraising to help alleviate the cost.
Why should I join A.O.E.?
Everyone joins a sorority for different reasons, but our values unite our sisters. Alpha Omega Epsilon believes in the power of friendship, leadership, and professionalism. We love bringing our sisters together through sisterhood events, getting involved in the community, professional development workshops, and many other events. Our committees hold special events that provide great skill development for our sisters and through Alpha Omega Epsilon, you have access to a vast network of accomplished alumni you can reach out to and connect with.
Do I have to be a STEM major?
Being a STEM major is not a requirement, as long as you are student who supports women in STEM, you will be considered equally when bids for membership are given. However, our events are catered towards students who are in STEM disciplines.
Can i be in another sorority and still join alpha omega epsilon?
You cannot be involved in other nationally recognized sororities or fraternities while involved in Alpha Omega Epsilon. There are some exceptions to this, including some service-based or honors organizations, so please contact [email protected] if you have any questions about organizations you are apart of.
